Modern Resort Living

BELCARO, DENVER

The owners of this new-build contemporary home approached us with the vision to create a resort-like, multifunctional outdoor space. As an active family, their vision prioritized entertaining for large groups and flexible space for recreation, as well as the ability to enjoy their backyard throughout Colorado’s four distinct seasons. Our main design challenge was to create the expansive footprint the family desired, leading to a comprehensive teardown and regrading of the property (with the exception of a beautiful perimeter of mature trees). 

Once we created this “blank slate” for the concept, we pivoted to developing a structured spatial hierarchy: a large-format paver patio with stone retaining walls and layered accent lighting; a pool and elevated spa; a custom outdoor kitchen with an adjacent dining area and fireplace lounge; and an open lawn for sports and family play time. Low-maintenance, climate-specific plantings were chosen to promote color and movement throughout the year, while the installation of an automated irrigation system helped to support their longevity in Denver’s driest months. The completed project lives like a private club with elegant stonework, water features and cross-generational amenities that offer endless hours of connection and relaxation.
