Sloped Hillside Terrace

Nestled into a rugged hillside, this new-build residence offered an uninterrupted view of the surrounding terrain—but little usable outdoor space. The homeowners commissioned us to develop a multi-functional landscape design that enhanced their year-round enjoyment of the home, from cooking to dining and lounging. Our challenge was to create a cohesive plan that felt like a natural extension of the house, while adapting to the steep surrounding terrain. 

Using a terraced layout to ensure structural integrity, we then fine-tuned the placement of each space to optimize both privacy and panoramic views. Circulation paths with strategic lighting provided fluid transitions between each zone, connecting an outdoor kitchen and seating areas with a compact spool (spa-pool hybrid). The use of low-maintenance, deer-resistant native plantings also helped integrate the design into the surrounding mountain environment. The result is a highly functional space that naturally extends from the home, effortlessly perched on the edge of an expansive vista.
